In 1926, his brilliant academic career and clinical experience were cut short by fate but to get a lethal rabies infection! HK
Professor Sievers, disciple and collaborator assisted him in such terrible times and cooperated with the ratification of the diagnosis of his illness, describing the situation in these words:
"He caught the disease by examining the carcass of a cow, December 1925. In January 1926 after Duhalde visiting the livestock farm Durham, complained of having suffered sunstroke. On February 22 accusing pains in the left arm (left hand broke the jaw of cattle dead, to examine the jaws) accentuated her discomfort on the night of 23. Day 24 has an incident with a passenger on the tram and at night suffer syncope at home. Examined by a doctor who treated him the same night, he was diagnosed with acute delirium box and prescribed sedatives (bromides). On 25 shows agitated, complaining of insomnia and is plagued by periodic access (I personally attend); at night presents new access rabiformes, wants to escape, breathing panting and irregular faringeanas difficulties, hallucinations, despair, hydro and aerophobia, and rage. On 26 the doctor will prescribe strong sedatives (chloral, muthanol, somnyfene), but refuses to admit the existence of rabies.
